Music Minor
Music Education (B.M.E.), Music Therapy (B.M.T.), Music (B.A.) and Music Performance (B.A.) majors are not eligible for the minor in Music.
Admission Requirements
- Students must meet with a college advisor/student success counselor to declare a minor and review the course requirements.
Additional Graduation Requirements
- A grade of C or higher is required in all courses for the minor.
- A minimum of 12 credits of the minor must be completed at FGCU.
- Students desiring certification of a minor and designation on their academic transcript must:
- Note the minor on the Application for Graduation.
- Contact a college advisor/student success counselor to certify completion of all course requirements for the declared minor as listed below.
Audition Requirement - To be accepted into the program, students must complete the Bower School of Music online application and audition for admittance.
Program Requirements
NOTE: Students admitted to the Bower School of Music are eligible to apply for a Music Scholarship. The Music Scholarships are awarded to assist individual students to obtain an education and to help create an institutional musical environment conducive to the musical growth of all students and the enhancement of the campus cultural environment. The Music Scholarship recipient must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.5 and have no grades of “F” in any class (unless later replaced by a grade of “C” or better). Also they must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 in music classes at FGCU and have no grades lower than “C” in any music class (unless later replaced by a grade of “C” or better), and demonstrate continuing progress in the principal performing medium as exhibited through applied lessons, ensemble performance, recital appearances, and jury examinations.

Complete one of the following:
MUL 2010 Music Appreciation (3)
MUH 2512 World Music Cultures (3)
Complete 3 credits from the following:
Any upper division (3000-4999 level) MUX course for which the student has completed the prerequisites
*Students may be exempt based on performance on the piano placement exam.
**Applied Music Study must occur in five separate semesters, including one at the upper level. Students registered for applied music MVX 1XXX-4XXX must be registered concurrently for a large ensemble (MUN 1120, 1310, 2210, 3133, 3313, 3343, 4143 or 4213, as appropriate) each semester.
