Bachelor of Health Science

The Health Science program is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide career advancement opportunities for entry level health profession practitioners as well as individuals that seek future careers in health care.

The program is also recommended for students who are interested in a health profession at the post-baccalaureate level, such as Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. All of the upper division courses required to complete this program are available by web-based distance learning.

The program embraces different backgrounds and interests and is appropriate for individuals who wish to gain further interdisciplinary education.

Articulation agreements facilitate the transfer of students from associate degree programs at community colleges to baccalaureate degree programs at universities. Students admitted under articulation agreements enter FGCU with upper level status and are classified juniors. Students who have earned or are intending to earn an associate of arts or associate of science degree in an allied health care profession from State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota or St. Petersburg College should contact the college for more information regarding the transfer process. Additional articulation agreements are under discussion.

Program Admission Requirements

Health Science is a Non-Specialized Admissions Program. A Non-Specialized Admissions Program is one where program admission is not restricted to a certain number of students like a Specialized Admissions Program . This means that you are initially accepted into the University as a declared Health Science major. However, you are still required to meet the program milestones and progression standards in order to remain in good academic standing and continue taking courses toward the degree. Students enrolled in Non-Specialized Admissions Program must complete general education before taking upper division courses in the major.

Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
For timely degree completion, students must complete appropriate milestones. Failure to meet milestone requirements may result in required major reselection. Refer to the Health Science Student Guidebook for further information on progression standards.

In addition to the program requirements, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 120 credits.
- Complete a minimum of 48 of the 120 credits in the upper division (3000-4999 level).
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
- Earn a minimum grade of C for all Health Science major and restricted elective courses. A grade of C minus (C-) is considered less than a C.
- Complete all program requirements.
- Satisfy the residency requirement: 30 of the last 60 credits must be completed at FGCU.
- Satisfy the College-Level Skills and foreign language entrance requirements.
- Satisfy the Service-Learning requirement.
- Satisfy the Civic Literacy requirement.
- Complete the summer course enrollment requirement.
- Submit an application for graduation by the deadline listed in the FGCU Academic Calendar.
