Not only will you receive the space to bloom into a new career position, but you might also surprise yourself on how you impact those around you. You will meet first thing with Human Resources for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) to begin your employment and become familiar with some procedures and essential information for taking advantage of employee benefits.
- A temporary parking permit can be provided for the arrival on the first day. Please visit Parking Services located in McTarnaghan Hall Room 120. You will then be required to purchase the appropriate parking pass from parking services within the start of your employment.
- NEO is designed to give you the necessary tools and resources for your career journey at FGCU. The purpose of our NEO is to help you understand FGCU’s culture, vision, mission, and core values, as well as providing valuable information to ensure successful employment at the university.
- FGCU utilizes electronic new hire paperwork forms to complete the hiring process. External applicants who are selected as finalists will be asked to complete the appropriate electronic new hire paperwork forms. Human Resources will email the electronic new hire paperwork to the new employee at the email listed in their application. The electronic new hire paperwork should be completed prior to the start date to expedite the hire process.
In addition, new employees will be required to complete the New Employee Orientation Packet (Loyalty Oath, FRS Certification) provided by the Human Resources Department.

Complete New Employee Orientation and Employment Eligibility Verification
Toggle More InfoPursuant to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, all new employees are required to complete and submit the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States of America. New employees will need to complete Section one of the Form I-9 located in their Workday Onboarding tasks on or before their first day of employment. New Employees will also need to schedule time bring their forms of identification for the I-9 Form to the Human Resources department, and complete the New Employee Orientation Packet.
Staff - Support Personnel (SP) and Administrative and Professional (A&P) New Employee Orientation
New staff members are scheduled to attend virtual New Employee Orientation (NEO) on their first day of work. Human Resources will include NEO information in the official offer letter. Please contact Human Resources at (239) 590-1400 with any questions regarding your NEO session.
Faculty New Employee Orientation
Each year before the fall semester starts the Lucas Center for Faculty Development hosts New Faculty Orientation which includes a presentation from the HR Benefits team. The Lucas Center will contact each new Faculty member to confirm the date of orientation.

Veterans' Preference
In compliance with Chapter 295, Florida Statute, Florida Gulf Coast University is committed to providing preference to U.S. veterans and spouses of veterans in hiring, promotion, and retention for all qualified positions (all Support Staff / Non-Exempt level positions), as prescribed by the chapter. What are the categories under which I can claim veterans' preference?

The state and its political subdivisions shall give preference in appointment and retention in positions of employment to:
Those disabled veterans:
Who have served on active duty in any branch of the United States Armed Forces, have received an honorable discharge, and have established the present existence of a service-connected disability that is compensable under public laws administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; or
Who are receiving compensation, disability retirement benefits, or pension by reason of public laws administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the United States Department of Defense.
The spouse of a person who has a total disability, permanent in nature, resulting from a service-connected disability and who, because of this disability, cannot qualify for employment, and the spouse of a person missing in action, captured in line of duty by a hostile force, or forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power.
A wartime veteran as defined in s. 1.01(14), who has served at least 1 day during a wartime period. Active duty for training may not be allowed for eligibility under this paragraph.

Indicate your claim for Veterans' Preference on the employment application
Upload DD214 to each posting covered under F.S. 295, as described above. A new DD214 must be uploaded with each application submitted. Forms submitted under a previous application will not transfer to another position application. For more information on obtaining a DD214, please visit eVetRecs or call (866) 272-6272
Note: Certain categories of preference may require additional documentation to be submitted by the claimant. Human Resources will contact the applicant should additional documentation beyond the DD214 be required.
Note: Current reserve members and National Guard members must upload a letter with their online application from their Commanding Officer stating the dates of their military service to establish that they are currently active. -
Have there been any recent changes to Florida's veterans' preference law?

The Florida residency requirement was removed.
The requirement to serve during a wartime period was removed.
The following categories for preference were added:
