Anthropology is the study of humans in all of our complexity, both past and present. It is a discipline concerned with studying the cultural, social, historical, and anatomical aspects of our collective human experience. Students of anthropology at Florida Gulf Coast University learn the basic concerns and methods of the four sub-fields of the discipline: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics.

Both a major and minor in anthropology and a minor in Museum Studies are offered in this program. The major is for anyone interested in working with people in all of their cultural diversity, solving social problems, teaching social sciences, and learning human biology from an evolutionary point of view. Our minors pair well with many other majors.

The FGCU Anthropology Program is teaching-oriented with engaged faculty. We offer many opportunities for experiential learning and conducting independent research.

The skills and abilities attained through this degree are necessary for life and work in an increasingly global and dynamic world. Anthropology graduates find employment in public archaeology, education, cultural resource management, museums, nonprofit institutions, and in corporations.
