Honors Development Funds

What Are Honors Development Funds (HDF)?

They support Honors students’ intellectual development by providing up to $2,000 to offset costs in activities serving the mission of the college such as:

  • Traveling to professional conferences to present academic papers and posters
  • Conducting academic research or projects
  • Honors coursework that involves costs outside of the regular course related fees
  • Honors Thesis development

Study Abroad

Study Abroad - Harlaxton, England

  • Applicants must have an approved plan/proposal on file before applying;
  • Applicants must provide a budget summary when applying;
  • A faculty mentor is requires for funds requests for conference presentations, articles, research projects/supplies; 
  • Faculty-Led Study Abroad, Study Away, Exchange Program, and Provider Program must be approved and recognized by FGCU. 
  • International volunteer or Internship grants will be considered if the travel is related to Honors coursework and/or research projects.

Application Process

  • Application for HDF must be supported by documentation for consideration and review.
  • Application will be reviewed by the Dean of the Honors College.
  • The college will communicate with the student once a decision is made.

Exclusions

The following do not qualify for HDF:

  • Living expenses, tuition etc.
  • Membership dues, school supplies
  • Subscriptions

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be, and remain, in good standing with the Honors College.
  • Applicant is required to meet with the Dean or Associate Dean to discuss their application.
  • Activities must be related to Honors College coursework.

Review

  • The Dean's office will conduct the review with the following considerations:

    • Availability of funds
    • Clarity and relevance
    • Strength of the application
